WebGL


I finally managed to beat the WebGL version into working. It involved pain, hard work and certain actions banned by both the Geneva convention and several allied species. But it runs.

I'm a little uncertain if that is a *good* thing. To get it running I had to remove all music and audio (Unity's WebGL audio support sits somewhere between terrible and truly atrocious), videos were stripped out, images were downsampled to reduce the memory footprint, and still I need a heap size of 1.5GB to boot the game safely. The average user will almost certainly have a better experience if they just download the game and run it locally.

Having said that, there certainly is an audience for WebGL games, including here at itch.io. Some places like Newgrounds thrive on it exclusively. This goes perhaps especially in the small subset of the industry I find myself in; for some reason some people worry that when you download a porn game you get more than just the game. At least with a WebGL version, the varieties of digital STD you can get are limited.

Anyway, there it is; it's experimental, so let me know if there's any issues. I likely will keep it only as a demo (rather than expanding and extending it), simply because I had to do so many changes to the underlying asset set that it's quite out of synch already. What I might do is use it as a way to upsell the full game. Once a user has seen the love that went into making the original game, they might be willing to give me a chance and download the full thing.

Next up... Android. And this time I'm going to try to make the UX/UI experience feel better. We shall see if I succeed.
